Increase Search Engine Rankings Using These Easy Tricks

By Chris Elliott

So you have a ranking in a search engine but it's not quite what you expected, right? Well there are a few tips for ranking higher and I'm going to share those with you today so listen up.
Rank Booster #1 Increase Your Reciprocal Links

This is a time tested approach and it works in both Directories such as Yahoo! and also in Spider Search Engines such as Google.

What you do is setup a link trading directory and make categories just like a mini Yahoo! except you have them all relate to your market. This provides keyword density and it also gives your link popularity a big boost.

But please be warned that if you just go and get any links you can (i.e. untargeted links) you will be penalized rather than rewarded in your rankings.

It's much better to get just a few high ranking link partners verses hundreds of unrelated and untargeted ones.

Rank Booster #2 Add More Content

This is a great technique that also works in both Directories and Spider Search Engines. By adding more content you will keep people who click over to your site there longer and this gets your ranking up in the Directories such as Yahoo! because they track how long a visitor stays at your site. If they click their back button then you will be shown as a site which doesn't help the visitor which will decrease your rank.

You will get a higher ranking on the Spider Search Engines such as Google because they spider through your whole site seeing how many pages there are and this increases your ranking because you have more information there for there visitors.

Both Directories and Search Engines love content and track how long people are staying at your pages which in turn also increases or decreases your rank based on how long they stay. If they stay longer, your rank goes up. If they click the back button immediately, your rank goes down.

Rank Booster #3 Improve Your Sites Load Time

This is another that works with both Spider Search Engines and Directories. This will improve your ranking in Directories because it will keep more of the visitors that click over to your site there longer. Internet users want information and they want it now. If your site loads like molasses then they are going to leave. Directories track how long a visitor stays at your site and rank you accordingly. If a visitor leaves immediately then you're rank goes down because your site was tagged as "not useful".

It will improve your ranking in Spider Search Engines because the spiders check for load time and load speed is part of the ranking system when they calculate relevance of a site.

Rank Booster #4 Improve Your Keyword Density

This one only works for Spider Search Engines. The reason is because Directories only review & list you once so you can change your keyword density after they list you but the review and placement of your site has already happened.

It works great in Spider Search Engines because they continually spider your site analyzing & updating your listing according to what it finds.

If you need a better listing then utilize these strategies in helping you boost your rank today. They work and although they all take time, you will see a difference.

These are much easier tactics than you will find in big, complicated SEO courses and there's a good chance that they may just bump your position up.

Get to work and start using them now.

How to make WordPress search engine friendly

By Mark Spencer

WordPress software comes ready to embrace search engines. Its features and functions guide a search engine through the posts, pages, and categories to help the search engine crawl your site and gather the information it needs to include your site within its database.
WordPress comes with several built in search optimization tools, including the ability to use .htaccess to create apparently static URLs called permalinks, blogrolling, and pinging. There are also a number of third party plugins and hacks which can be used for search engine optimization (SEO).

However, after tweaking WordPress to your likings, you may find yourself dragging in search engine rankings. WordPress isn't exactly the most SEO application out of the box, either.

Here are some basic guidelines to ensure your WordPress blog is search engine optimized.

Good, Clean Code

Make sure your site's code validates. Errors in your code may prevent a search engine from moving through the site successfully.

Content Talks

Search engines can't "see" a site. They can only "read" a site. Pretty does not talk to a search engine. What "talks" to a search engine are the words, the content, the material in your site that explains, shares, informs, educates, and babbles. Make sure you have quality word content for a search engine to examine and compare with all the parts and pieces to give you a good "score".

Write Your Content with Searchers in Mind

How do you find information on the Internet? If you are writing something that you want to be "found" on the Internet, think about the words and phrases someone would use to find your information. Use them more than once as you write, but not in every sentence. Learn how search engines scan your content, evaluate it, and categorize it so you can help yourself get in good favor with search engines.

Content First

A search engine enters your site and, for the most part, ignores the styles and CSS. It just plows through the site gathering content and information. Most WordPress Themes are designed with the content as close to the top of the unstyled page as possible, keeping sidebars and footers towards the bottom. Few search engines scan more than the first third of the page before moving on. Make sure your Theme puts the content near the top.

Keywords, Links, and Titles Meet Content

Search engines do not evaluate your site on how pretty it is, but they do evaluate the words and put them through a sifter, giving credit to certain words and combinations of words. Words found within your meta tag keywords listings and within your document are compared to words found within your links and titles. The more that match, the better your "score."

Content in Links and Images

Your site may not have much text, mostly photographs and links, but you have places in which to add textual content. Search engines look for alt and title in link and image tags. While these have a bigger purpose of making your site more accessible, having good descriptions and words in these attributes helps provide more content for search engines to digest.

It is not how good your site is, it is how good the sites are that link to you. This still holds weight with search engine favoritism. It's about who links to you. Blogrolls, pingbacks, and trackbacks are all built into WordPress. These help you link to other people, which gives them credit, but it also helps them link to you, connecting the "links." The number of incoming links your site has that have been recognized by Google can be checked by typing link:www.yoursite.com into Google (other search engines have similar functions). Other ways to generate incomming links to your site include: * Add your site's url to your signature on forum posts on other sites. * Submit your site to directories (see below). * Note: Leaving comments on blogs will not help with this, since all modern blogging tools use the rel="nofollow" attribute. Don't be a comment spammer.

Good Navigation Links

A search engine crawls through your site, moving from page to page. Good navigational links to the categories, archives, and various pages on your site will invite a search engine to move gracefully from one page to another, following the connecting links and visiting most of your site.

Stay Connected

Besides building backlinks, it's important to build actual connections with other bloggers and readers. Post regularly on other sites and get to know the people at the top of your genre. Stay up to date with the latest WordPress SEO techniques with Ontora Web Marketing.

Is your Web Design Driving Traffic Away From your Website?

By Kyle Newton

Web-design does not mean designing art pieces with our websites. In fact, it is designing something useful that the clients needs; whether it is an e-commerce site, or a simple branding site. The primary goal is to get your clients message out there. The web design field is maturing and now we know which website structures work and which ones don't. Keeping this in mind, there is no need to go hog-wild with your designs - you know what works already!
The 80/20 principle works in just about any field - web design is no different. A classic definition of the principle states: that a small number of the causes (20%) are responsible for most (80%) of the effect. With respect to web design, we can say that 20% of the work takes up 80% of the time. So the approach should be to identify that expensive 20% and do something about! In a typical web design project, this 20% is:

1. Figuring out the Client Requirements and efficiently dealing with them. 2. Thinking and creating the basic structure of the website.

The best idea for web design may be to have "Predefined web site structures - templates" with different themes and covering all the area like e-commerce site, or a simple branding site. The designer must always keep in mind that he is the web designer; he is going to tell the client how the website should be laid out, not the other way around!

Web design becomes a pain when one start it by tinkering -- when you sit down in front of your computer and you start building the website with no plan. You just start 'tinkering', trying different layouts, changing positions of images or your navigation etc ... This is a recipe to disaster and pain. This should be avoided. Some points that need to be taken care of while designing are:

1. Do not put too much text in one big block. Separate them out into paragraph and put white space between paragraphs. This makes your text look more readable. 2. If you check the websites of big companies (Microsoft, Yahoo, etc), you will find that they still prefer a white background with black text for their main text. If you must have a colored background, make sure you try out your page by viewing it in resolutions like 256 colors to see whether the page looks acceptable. 3. Reduce the size of the individual graphics files on your pages by using the following methods: a. reduce the number of colors in the graphic b. reduce the size of the image, if possible c. in animations, reduce the number of frames d. in animations, don't duplicate the background in every frame; make the first frame a background without any objects that will move, and put all your moving objects in separate frames with transparent backgrounds.

Internet Marketing Strategy News: Is Your Web Site Lost in Space?

By Sally Falkow

Although it should look good, the real purpose of a web site is to generate sales or leads for your product or service--anything else is a waste of your marketing budget. That should be in bold type on your Internet marketing strategy.
However, there is one catch--you have to get them to your site. You could have an award winning web site design with the content written by a Pulitzer Prize winning author, and you're convinced that people will love it. But will they come?

Since 80% of all website traffic comes via the search engines, it is essential to make your website as search engine friendly as you can. You need to be listed on the first page of results for the key word of phrase that best describes your business. 80% of the business from a search query goes to the companies who are listed in the top half of the first page of search results.

Most of your prospects have never heard of you and have no idea that you even exist, never mind your web address. There are millions and millions of users. That's the good news--lots and lots and lots of people on the Net.

On the flip side there are currently billions of websites and growing daily.

Everyone else has the same idea you have--build a web site and they will come. Well, how are those customers with money to spend going to find you? You must address that when preparing your Internet marketing strategy.

The answer is search engines--the online tool that allows users to quickly find almost anything on the World Wide Web. By selecting keywords (words or phrases a user will enter into a search engine in order to find a web site) the users find the information they are looking for. So it follows that your site should have keywords.

Yes, the robot society has arrived. The majority of people (i.e. your prospects) use a search engine to look for products or services. The search engines use "spiders" - a computer robot program that scans the web looking for information that is then updated or added to their search engine database.

Spiders are sometimes referred to as "knowledge-bots", "crawlers" or "knowbots". The web is so large that is can take six months for a spider to find your site.

Once you build your web site you have choices in terms of getting traffic to your site:

1. Do nothing and hope people will find you. Some of your competition is following this tactic--so you could easily get the jump on them by doing something.

2. Pay per click. This is a method of search marketing where advertisers (sellers) pay a set amount every time their ad is clicked by a prospect. Some services run on an "auction" basis--you bid against your competitors for paid listings on the search engine listings of keywords. E.g. you could pay $.10 or $10 per click to get listed in your category for a listing on Google (these appear at the top and down the right side of the search engine listings) or Yahoo. Buying your way to a top with sponsored listings is somewhat effective. However, searchers click on sponsored listings only 26% of the time. They know they are advertisements and not genuine search results.

3. Optimize your site. Optimize comes from Latin meaning "best." So to optimize means "to make the most perfect or to modify to achieve maximum efficiency". The objective is to maximize your web site's search visibility and conversion rate and so generate more leads and sales.

This is also called "positioning" or ranking -- the process of writing, programming and designing a web site using keywords so that the search engine ranks your site high in the results.

Search Engine Positioning gets your site listed by the search engine so that people looking for your product or service can quickly find you. Organic (or natural) search results pay off in traffic and brand value.

Once the visitor reaches your site, your home page has to be relevant to their search term and key words, easy to use, draw them into your site and take them down the click path to where you want them to take that all important revenue producing click.

Most websites lose 60% of their traffic right off the home page.

Your website is a vital tool in your marketing and PR campaign--your online face to the world. But even the most perfect website is no use at all if it is never found and seen by the right audience.

Your brand awareness and value increases with top search page result placement.

The bottom line is that your customers can't buy what they can't find. Make it easy for them by optimizing your web site. Being lost in space is not a good Internet marketing strategy.

Keyword Research for Seasonal Site SEO

By Halstatt Pires

Keyword research is one of the necessary steps that must be undertaken as part of a search engine optimization plan. That being said, you have to be careful when doing it for a seasonal site.
A seasonal site is simply one that is dialed into a particular time of the year. Assume you are selling bathing suits. You are probably going to do most of your business during the spring and summer. There may be a few people searching online for bathing suits in December, but not many.

If you have a seasonal site, you are both blessed and cursed when it comes to optimizing it to obtain top rankings. How so? On the good side, most of your competitors more or less shut down their optimization efforts during the down season or at least just do minor maintenance efforts. On the bad side, you can easily be misled when doing keyword research.

I will get a call every so often from someone with a season site that is very frustrated. They have optimized the site. They have top rankings for their keywords on MSN, Google and Yahoo. The high season comes. They make sales, but nowhere near what they were expecting. Conversion rates are acceptable, but the rankings are producing far less traffic than they expected. So, what is the problem? Time.

With a seasonal site, it is vital that you take the time of the year into account when doing your keyword research. Just as your site is seasonal, so are the search phrases being used. Let's go back to our bathing suit site example.

Assume I am going to start optimizing my bathing suit site. I understand that I need to do keyword research to see what my potential customers are using to search for bathing suits. I pop on to Wordtracker or whatever and start hunting. I make a big list and get ready to go. This is exactly what I should do except there is one problem:

It is JANUARY!

How accurate is my keyword research going to be? Most of my potential market is not going to be shopping for bathing suits during the winter. As a result, many of the keywords I discover may be false negatives. They may be used a bit, but I could be completely missing out on the high traffic phrases used during the high season for my site. If you have a seasonal site, you must do your keyword research during the high season without exception.

Okay, so what do I do if it is January? Do I just forget about optimizing my site? Of course not. It is time to start doing bathing suit searches. Think of every possible phrase you could possible use for bathing suits. Now keep an eye on which sites keep popping up over and over. Once you have identified them, see what keyword phrases they are using by reading their meta titles. Compare those to your keyword research and you should be able to identify any biggies you have missed.

Directory Submission Service - Tyler Dewitt

For any web master, or e-commerce website owner, we all know that building links into you website is a very important process, but there is some things to be aware of when building links, and there is a proper way of building links.
One thing I've always done when I've first started a website was to build links to it by doing directory submissions, high quality directory submissions, and article submissions. This process can sometimes be a link bait effect specially with article submissions.

When doing article submissions, that give the "viewers" a more clear look at what you have to offer on your website, and if its something very pro efficient, and they find it interesting they might just link you, and spread the word to there Internet friends, or just there average general friends.

Some things to realize about doing article submissions is to always make sure you put your keywords inside the title of the article, the reason I say this is cause a big majority of the time this is what going to show up in the search engines, so say someone is searching for "widgets".

Well its a possibility that your article link could show up, and by them going to your article, and reading about what your author published, or you published they might just find it interesting and check further into your website, just be sure to put more then 1 keyword in your title, and mix them up.

Now when were submitting to directories we always want to keep your "keyword", inside the anchor text because when the robots/spiders go search through the web there valuing the anchor text the most from ibl(inbound links) to you, and this will give you a major boost if done right, and have got enough of these links.

To learn more about directory submissions, article submissions, or to hire a directory submitter please check out Directory Submission Service, and SEO Consulting.

Promotional Articles Increase Your Web Site Traffic - Promotional Articles Increase Your Web Site Traffic

One of the most effective methods of getting targeted traffic to a site is by using promotional articles. There are several reasons why articles are effective and examining them will help us understand this subject a little better. To start with, it is useful to remember that most people come online looking for information. They are usually already aware of the fact that this information is available in web sites and they are eager to find sites that are packed with the information that they are looking for. If they find a promotional article covering the subject that they are seeking information on, they will eagerly read it and if they like what they see, they will then visit your web site. Promotional articles are therefore a great way to attract attention to yourself and your web site. Unlike traffic that directly originates from search engines, visitors who arrive at your site after having read your promotional articles will not only be highly targeted, but they will also already be prepared in that they will have a very good idea of what is available at your site. This means that they will usually be much easier to convert into paying clients. In other words much smaller number of readers arriving at your site through promotional articles will tend to be much more profitable to you than bigger numbers arriving via any other web site promotional method you can think of using. Then there is the fact that a single article can continue to pull in traffic for your web site for years to come without you having to invest any more time or money on it. For instance a good promotional article distributed to article directories, web sites and blogs will tend to remain online for years. In effect it will continue to be available to persons interested in the subject, and a good number of them will end up at your web site. This is a huge advantage. These are but a few of the many reasons why articles tend to be more profitable than many other forms of web site promotion.

Good SEO Techniques to Use - wideon.net

"Every single site owner wants to be at the top of the major search engines rankings. Taking full advantage of search engine optimization (SEO) techniques can put you on the right path to seeing this dream come true.
A common way to improve your sites search engine rankings is to title tag. When doing this you should put the keyword of the page in the title tag of the web page. You also should include a different tag for every page. The keyword should be used in the ALT tags made for text browsers that cannot view images.

Be careful when applying keywords. Over using keywords can cause you to be banned from search engines for a period of time, or even forever.

You should include your keyword in the title tag, as well as once in both heading and bold text. Also using the keyword in both first and last sentences has been known to increase search engine ranking. To increase your sites popularity with search engines you need to increase the number of links that are directed to your site. The more links your website has the higher the search engines will rank you.

Links from other sites directing to your site improves your search engine ranking. Be sure to include the keyword in the links and keep it as short as you can. You may get a request to exchange links but make sure the other site doesn't have any hidden repetitive keywords.

An important factor many people don't know is to keep the size of the web page smaller, in between 5k and 15k. This will keep the search engines and your visitors happy when visiting your site.

Search engine optimization is important for any successful website that wants to be at the top of any important search engine. Be sure to use many different techniques to see the best results."

NO COST FOR INDEX WEBSITE BY SEARCH ENGINES - seoinfosys

Yes, like everyone else who venture into internet business and own websites, we want to know the best options to get website indexed as soon as possible which of course means more business. Well, allow me to share a little strategy of here, one of the fastest way is actually by writing and publishing articles and press releases, and get it distributed all over the internet.
Are you being surprised on such simplest way? Or you were expecting me to explore some long boring, and complex options? Hey, I'm not that techie, so do most of others. We are here just to earn so income, that the reason we go into business right? So let's get to the ground and examine this simple way further.

One of the best ways we can do to generate more traffics to any of our website is to obtain inbounds back links from others right? Allow me to clarify here, what we are looking for are those one way links back to our site which are of higher quality to the SE. Reciprocal links are alright still, but one fine day the search engines would be catching up on that! Don't just rely on this strategy and put your online business at potential risk.

There isn't a real value in Reciprocal links except more on "Virtual Business Trading". You see, if you could achieve hundreds if not thousands of relevant one way links channeling back to your website, you are getting best of both world! You are going to get traffics coming from the one way links channels, and also from the increased ranking or search position in SE. Would that be truly great?

Are you getting excited and rushing to get started on this strategy? Hold on first, before anything else, you have got to realize that writing, publishing and distributing articles is not just a one time work. It is in fact a continuous and recurring task. It will be part of your business strategy plan, your business marketing plan!

As with your business activities, you must practice article writing and related tasks on daily basis. Somehow you might wonder, is the time spent worth it? By sitting down and start typing, how would you gain? Well, be assured that this would be time well spent for your business! Rather than cranking your head deep down with those complex strategy and tactics, why not get yourself with this simple and effective strategy?

In fact, there are a whole bunch of article directories out there. They are in real hunger for content! If you got a well written article, I bet you that they will start to chase for you! And With RSS technology, you would be surprised if they are all set to draw contents from your sites almost instantly whenever you update a new content. In my own experience, some of my articles get published as fast as within 2 days, and it get indexed sometimes later on the same day being published. If my articles are published in well established sites, the link back will bring my website showing up in the major SE as fast as the following day due to the SE are crawling the site on daily basis!

So my dear friend, this surely beats waiting for months in doing some complex or techie thing like SE Optimization right? And if you are like me whom am totally off hand in SE Optimization things, I bet it will cost you money just to get your site optimized by some expert. But then you would be wondering, "How on earth could I submit to whole hundreds bunch of those article directories?" Of course, under normal situation, one would really have to spend thousands of hours in doing that. But there have been many great tools available on internet, there are also some kind of automated article submitting software to help make the submission task easier! Furthermore, there is also a wide selection of article distribution service available of which you could tap into their good network.

In my case, I utilize a combination of these article distribution services. Again, with ZERO advertising budgets to spend, I could only utilize their Free Service with limited distribution range. But hey buddies, I have seen my site back linking increased from about 50 to more than 500 within 2weeks! What else I could ask for more for a free service?

Now, for the second option on Press Release strategy, it is another great tool for marketer's Marketing Secret Weapons. Not only in brick and mortal traditional business, this strategy could work wonders too for online business!

Of course, just as with articles publishing and distribution, it can't be a just "One Time" work also. But, unlike article publishing strategy, you don't need to do Press Releases on daily basis. Doing it on either weekly or bi-monthly basis would be much sufficient for that kind of marketing effect. It will also go a long way in generating the traffic while getting your website indexed fast.If you combine the above 2 methods in promoting your websites, you will be able to experience much quicker indexing than other methods. In the same time it also drive traffic to your websites fast almost instantly as readers who feel interested in your articles or Press Release will click thru and reach your website.

What's next? Don't wait, get your self start in doing the above 2 simple strategy! Little to your awareness, your website might just be indexed the next day!

Seeing a Blog As a Dual Marketing Tool - Christopher Angus

Blogging is only successful if you can see it as a dual marketing tool. The third part of the blogging business triad is a dual product. There is the product you are selling on your website (or from others) and then there is your opinion. You can't sell a product through blogging unless you can convince the reader to "buy" your opinions. Whatever you decide to sell make sure you can back it up with your reputation because when it comes to blogging what you are blogging can be gold.
The trick to writing a great business blog is to realize that you are not just selling your products, you are also selling yourself. If you can't sell yourself then others are not likely to buy from you. This is why writing a blog can actually be detrimental to individuals who are selling a product they don't really believe in or who are simply just terrible when it comes to expressing themselves. A lack of enthusiasm is also really damaging and stealing from other sites can actually sabotage your business completely.

Remember that unlike other business situations, blogging means that you have to sell is yourself. Others have to buy into your beliefs and opinions and give you credibility as an expert. If you seem like the type of writer who doesn't know what he or she is talking about or can't back up their opinions with research or facts then the blog may even damage your sales.

A successful blog can become a prime piece of web space upon which others will want to post their advertising and links if you can create a blog that attracts thousands of visitors. However keep in mind that in order to keep your readers that you will do much better through convincing them through the written word that you are behind the people who link to you rather than just linking to whoever offers.

Internet Marketing Strategy News: 10 Ways to increase your subscriber list

By - Sally Falkow

One of the most effective ways to promote a business is to send them an email newsletter. Or you can print, and mail it which is more expensive as you have the printing and postage costs. A newsletter has many advantages as a tool in an overall Internet marketing strategy:

It has more credibility than advertising or other forms of promotion such as a brochure as it is educational not a sales pitch. It falls into the realm of public relations.

The newsletters cost nothing to send as email.

The newsletters can also be printed hard copy as needed to include in sales presentations.

Newsletters can be edited and turned into news releases or articles to be sent to the media to get publicity.

Of course, you need email addresses to send the newsletter. Here are ten ways to increase your subscriber list:

Content, content, content! The content of your newsletter is the key to expanding your list of subscribers. You want to create an "idea virus" that others will be so interested in the content that they can't wait for the next issue and will want to forward it to their friends and associates. Make your content timely and interesting. In our over communicated society your message has to be worthwile enough to spend time to read. Keep in mind that business owners and managers are most often trying to increase sales and profits. What can you write that will help them do that?

Offer a free subscription to your newletter on your web site. Have the link to the subscription page on all your web pages--on the top left corner. Make it simple and easy to enroll. The free subscription is the "front end" of your offer. The "back end" is the readers becoming interested in buying your product or service--the real end result of a good internet marketing strategy.

Make it a practice to collect identities in all your business dealings. Collect business cards when you attend lunch or a networking event. Send them an email to confirm your meeting and invite them to subscribe to your newsletter. Provide the link to your web site.

Get free mailing lists, write letters or send personal emails to them and use the newsletter as your offer. E.g. you could contact your trade association, Chamber of Commerce or networking group and get their mailing list. As your budget permits, rent mailing lists but ensure that they target your demographic and are not spam lists which will kill a good internet marketing strategy.

Encourage your subscribers to forward it to others. Use wording something like this: "Please feel free to forward this to your friends and associates by selecting the forward button on your e-mail."

Publishing schedule. Keep a regular schedule of publication. If you are offering a monthly newsletter, then make it monthly.

Add your free subsciption information to your email signature. E.g. "Free newsletter available at www.expansionplus.com"

Offer free reprint rights for your newsletter to others which will get it published in other newsletters or articles. We use this wording "This article may be reprinted in its entirety provided that the following resource box is left intact: ..."

List integrity. Have a privacy policy and enforce it.

Add the published newsletters to your web site which increases the content and will help improve search engine rankings--all part of an intertrated internet marketing strategy. With more people coming to your web site, they are good prospects to enroll.

Keep increasing the subscriber list of prospects and of course stay in touch with them through regular newsletters and other mailings. This is not a quick fix to generate fast sales but it will eventually develop good quaility prospects.

By the time they call you they will already know you through your writings which is a great start in developing trust with your prospect.

Newsletters are an inexpensive but effective part of an Internet marketing strategy.

5 SEO Resolutions For 2007

By - Matt Jackson

The Christmas period has truly come to an end. The trees are down, the local grid has stopped fretting over peaks and troughs in their energy consumption, and Easter eggs are already taking pride of place in local stores. Typically this is the time of year when we should all be taking stock of the year past and making resolutions for the year to come. The Internet Marketer, or SEO, in all of us should be regularly taking stock of the situation anyway to help determine the areas where we can improve our sites. On the back of this here are five resolutions we should all follow in 2007:

1 - I Will Stop Obsessing Over Google Updates And PR

This is a strange one. I, for one, realize the lack of importance that is actually placed on the updates in terms of improving search rankings. Google is, to all intents and purposes, a fluid search engine. Indexing and re-indexing takes place on a daily basis and information is updated in the Google index more often, even, than that. The ToolBar PageRank (or TBPR for the acronym lovers) is no longer the powerhouse of SEO that it once was but I, like many others, still wait around for the latest updates hoping I've managed to squeeze a bit more green into that bar.

The search results are also always changing and these are far more important than whether a site has increased from PR5 to PR6 (an update conducted roughly once every 3 months), or Google forbid, down to a PR4. In 2007, we should all attempt to pay less heed to the TBPR and much more care to the rankings we obtain.

2 - I Will Put More Effort Into Producing New Content For My Own Site

I appreciate that new and increased pages of content can have a hugely beneficial effect on my search engines. More pages means more possibility to rank for new keywords. Equally, Yahoo and similar search engines, look very favorably indeed on sites that contain masses of content.

Despite knowing this and despite being a content writer I still manage to go weeks sometimes without adding anything new to my own site. I pledge to add a minimum of two pages of content to my site every week. And it will be quality content, of course.

3 - I Will Obtain One .Edu Or .Gov Link

Authoritative links from .edu or .gov sites are believed to provide great weight to a website's SEO efforts. They are deemed as being a reliable source of information and so any sites they link to must hold invaluable information as well. Short of buying links from a service I saw recently, though, I haven't really managed to determine how to go about this. I could write a job description because apparently they like to link to job descriptions. I could detail the best way to get into the content writing industry because they apparently like to link to this kind of information too.

One thing I won't do, though, is to litter spam comments on the various forums and blogs that these sites host. Spamming is bad, no matter the reason and no matter the method. So don't expect to see me doing that. On the other hand, do expect an enthralling article about how I obtained the status of website content copywriter and how others interested in working hundred hour weeks and drinking dangerous levels of caffeine can get started.

4 - I Will Blog And I Will RSS

This is another one that I know to be beneficial. Clients have commented about how well a blog has performed or how the introduction of RSS has helped them retain or even improve rankings. But frankly, I've yet to find the time to do it.

Blogging is another effective method of adding new pages to a website and as well as generating new pages with quality content they can help to reinforce a message and drive hapless visitors to the appropriate pages on a website. RSS feeds provide a method for other websites to offer my content on their site but they also provide another way for me to benefit from the articles I write.

5 - I Will Remember That Google Is Not The Only Search Engine

Google is responsible for around half of the searches performed on the Internet. As such, they are in many ways the most important of the search engines. However, Yahoo are also a powerful search portal that commands a reasonable number of searches. MSN is run by a certain Bill Gates who will never be happy being third in any list. These two combined command a very generous share of the market so should not be completely ignored.

It's a common misconception that if you optimize a site for Google then you will automatically rank well in other search engines but this isn't the case. They all rank sites depending on different factors. It is possible to rank will with all the search engines but it takes some work. Adding more and more content concentrating on each of the search engines, and including a blog will help.

My 2007 Outlook

In 2007 I will be a new SEO. The world of search engine optimization is one in a constant state of change. Recent developments mean that keyword densities have dramatically changed especially through Google's introduction of Latent Semantic Indexing. Above all else I swear to remember that the search engines are a means to drive traffic and that the resulting visitors should be my main priority.

SEO - Tips For Writing Persuasive Keyword Copy

By - Christopher Angus

The key to writing persuasive keyword copy is to find that happy medium between pleasing the search engines and pleasing your readers. There are some basic rules of thumb that you can stick to as you attempt to accomplish this goal. In fact writing search engine and people friendly copy is as easy as chatting to a good friend.

First of all don't cram your copy with keywords. Only use about three different keywords or keyword phrases per page. Keyword phrases are more effective than single words as people tend to type phrases, not single words into search engine boxes.

Don't write less than 250 words in any one section of your website. It is possible for a search engine optimized article to be too short. Although when it comes to copy for search engine optimization it is important to be as concise and to the point as possible.

Try to write in grade six level conversational language. Don't try to impress search engines or readers with your lofty knowledge of rare vocabulary. If you are writing these yourself, then try writing the way you talk and then incorporating the keywords into the copy after you have chatted to your readers on paper.

You know you are writing good SEO copy if no sentence looks like it was constructed to especially accommodate the keyword. You can tell these types of sentences because nobody can understand them. Even if the search engine spiders find them friendly, difficult to read content is only going to have your visitor moving on to another site (possibly your competitor's) after they decide that your writing doesn't make any sense at all. Writing in a natural but informed tone that is not too structured or crammed with keywords is the best approach to creating excellent SEO copy.

SEO - Making The Best Use of Keywords

By - Christopher Angus

Once you have selected the keywords that you want to use in your SEO there are ways that you can use them to intelligently increase the attractiveness of your copy to both readers and the search engines.

First of all it is key to use keywords and keyword phrases in all of your headlines and subtitles. However only do this if the keyword actually augments rather than distorts the title of your site. Your best bet is to try to keep the title a complete sentence well at the same time trying to capture the gist by using one or two well-chosen, high ranking keywords. When writing copy try using keywords in the first sentence, last sentence and at least once in each paragraph. This is a rule that many professional SEO copywriters follow in attempt to make their technical writing sound more like "natural language." Both humans and spiders dislike robotic language.

Don't be afraid to bold, underline or italicize your keywords. They also stand out if they are used in bulleted links or if they are included in photo or image captions. This type of treatment can help highlight the words or phrases, not only to the reader, but also for the search engine.

Avoid using focused keyword phrases when a broad term is required. Not every generic phrase that you see is an open call to insert a keyword phrase. Also avoid using the same keyword phrase several times in a paragraph if you can. This is called keyword stuffing.

In conclusion the only sure way to test your keyword optimized search engine friendly copywriting is to post it online and then try searching for it in an engine. If type in the keyword phrase and it turns up, then you have done an excellent job as at SEO copywriting.

Beware of Questionable Search Engine Marketing Tactics!

By - Michael Biehn

If you're planning to be around for the long haul and want some success on the internet, then you need to be ethical in your promotion. Unless you have daily time dedicated to studying SEO and making the needed changes, you should contract with a reputable SEO company.

SEO ethics is not just about being nice little boy scouts. An ethical SEO specialist will make sure your website is not penalized or even banned from the search engines. Yes, it's true. There are a lot of freelance SEO specialists and SEO firms taking innocent webmasters for a ride.

The major search engines are always on the lookout for new cheats. When found, they will program the search engines to drop the sites using these methods. Without warning, you're gone. Also, don't forget, your competition watches your site and is looking for ways to rank higher than you. Your competition may report your unethical methods to the search engines.

Another typical scam is to use dirty tricks, called "black hat SEO", to get your website ranking highly. You are pleased as punch, hand over the money, then five months later you wonder what happened to your rankings when the search engines get wise and ban your site.

In today's business world, you must have a web site. After all, your competition does. Your site must be marketed ethically and monitored daily. Changes must be made ASAP when conditions change.

We help you achieve your online marketing goals without the risk of being penalized by, or banned completely from major search engines that monitor and respond quickly and mercilessly to the use of unethical tactics on websites.

SEO - How To Evaluate Link Requests

By Christopher Angus

Part of today's SEO practice is adding links to your web site or blog as it is well known that more quality links that you have on your web pages, the more likely Google and other powerful search engines are to rank you highly in their search engine pages.
If your site or blog is going well you may find yourself being confronted with a number of requests for links. Your challenge then as a search engine optimist is to find content that relates to your own. This is very important as Google will boost you even higher if you are linking to relevant information that integrates nicely with your own site. Therefore avoid selling hoodia, no matter how attractive the offer looks, if your blog or website is about selling winter tires.

Another thing you should check out before you agree to a link exchange request with anyone is how often the site is indexed. To do this all you need to do is see when the last time the site was cached in Google. This is also a good way of making sure you are not linking to a dead site. People who ask for link requests often fiddle with their link counters to make it look like they have more visitors then they do!

Yet another consideration is to look at the layout of site. Will your link be placed somewhere on the site where it will be easy for readers to see or find. If not then doing a link exchange is not worth it especially if you are giving the exchange better space than he or she is giving you! This is why it is advisable to state the page or placement of where you would like your link to go before you agree to any kind of link exchange for a blog or web page.

Why PPC And SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Are The Most Popular...

By Terry Detty

There has to be a reason why PPC (pay-per-click) ads and SEO (search engine optimization) are the two most popular website promotion tools on the World Wide Web today. As a matter of fact, it is not too difficult to figure out why these two website promotional methods are so popular. It is quite simple - they work. Actually they are very fast and effective in getting traffic to a web site. Internet Marketing can be overwhelming for some but if you leave it to the reputable professionals you can expect great results. Picture this situation. You select a few keywords come up with some attractive headlines and then launch a PPC ad campaign with Google Adwords. The next thing you know is that your site is receiving a steady flow of traffic. When the sums are done you realize that a sizeable number of those visitors who click through end up being your paying customers. You are easily able to make a good profit on your initial investment in the PCC ads and you then re-invest an even bigger ad budget. In this way many online entrepreneurs have started off with tiny ad budgets but have gradually build them up substantially to colossal monthly budgets. You can imagine the profits that go with the large budgets. Picture yet another situation where you hire the services of an SEO expert. After a few short weeks of their expertise, your notice that your web site has come from nowhere to feature very highly in most search engine rankings. The resulting traffic is huge. After you pay your SEO service provider or guru, you're left to enjoy free traffic that will continue to flow in your direction for years. Suddenly your affiliate program starts to yield hefty checks Or your product sales go through the roof. These are no fairy tales. It is reality and has happened to many online entrepreneurs who have rapidly moved from nothing to huge monthly online incomes. Little wonder that PPC ads and SEO services have the reputation they do today. The two online marketing tools have worked miracles for many people.

SEO - What Do Spider Engines Look For

By Christopher Angus

Things have changed since the early days of search engine optimization when all that was required was for the webmaster to simply submit the site along with metatags attached to keywords and well worded accurate descriptions of the content of its pages. However years of abuse of the system by greedy marketers left the system in a mess as misleading information, popular keywords and other black hat SEO techniques were used to trick the search engines into giving pages a higher ranking then they deserved. One of the biggest problems were web content providers that manipulated a number of attributes within the HTML code of a page by employing popularly searched for keywords that had nothing to do with their site.
Since those days the search engines have caught on and now look at a variety of different factors including the text within the title tag, the domain name, the URL directories and file names of the site, the HTML tags, term frequency, keyword proximity, keyword adjacency, keyword sequence, photo captions, text within NOFRAMES tags and web content. All of this information is used to create an algorithm that determines how highly ranked your page will be in the search engine rankings.

Abuse of the search engine index system still exists and in fact many SEO experts say it is not abuse at all to manipulate code or use fake keywords that do not represent what is on your site. Many of them simply see it as normal practice. Of course the person that it does matter to is the kid researching their homework who is led to a page of travel auction deals while trying to do a paper on the geography of a country. Ethically it is up to each individual web master or web site owner how much they want to be part of the degradation of information on a medium that had the potential to become a resource that was greater than the massive Greek Alexandria library.

SEO - Does SEO Mean Changing A Site's Code?

By Christopher Angus

Any SEO expert will tell you that SEO does not mean changing a site's code if you designed your site right in the first place. If you have hired professionals to employ the range of strategies and techniques usually employed with SEO then you will not need that many "on-page factors." On-page factors are what SEO experts call changes that need to be made to text of your site. '
There are two ways of applying SEO techniques - through the application of good design and through such methods that the search engines do not approve of such as spamdexing. Some industry experts define these methods, and the practitioners who utilize them, as either "white hat SEO", or "black hat SEO". Other SEO experts see the whole black and white hat polarization as an over-simplification of what search engine optimization actually involves. However as a rule of thumb - the more changes that you or your SEO expert are making to your text, the more coding your pages will need.

Coding a site to maximize SEO is best utilized during the initial stages of a site's design. This is because even the rudimentary structures to do with web page design can be optimized including the menus, content management systems and shopping carts.

An SEO tactic, technique or method is considered "White hat" if it conforms to the search engines' guidelines and does not involve an attempt to deceive the search engines. White Hat pleases search engines because it reflects content that a user will definitely see if the link is clicked on in the search engine pages. Black hat" SEO are methods to try to improve rankings that are disapproved of by the search engines and/or involve deception. This can range from text that is "hidden" or links that direct users from a page that is built for search engines to one that is more human friendly.
